A HOUSE IN NAI HARN — PAINTING A PERSONAL LANDSCAPE

In November 2025, an invitation arrived to create a series of paintings for a newly completed house in Nai Harn, Phuket. The brief was remarkably simple: complete artistic freedom, with only a passing remark that the owner had a fondness for red. Over the following five weeks, a body of work emerged that moved between abstraction and figuration, intuition and instinct. Once installed and framed within the house, the paintings transformed the interiors into a deeply personal landscape, one that the owner immediately embraced and continues to enjoy every day.
Some projects begin with a detailed brief. Others begin with trust.
In November 2025, an acquaintance invited me to visit his newly completed home in Nai Harn, Phuket, with the intention of commissioning a series of paintings. Apart from mentioning a fondness for the colour red, there were no expectations, limitations or predetermined themes. The project was entirely open.
Over the following five weeks, several large works were created specifically for the spaces within the house. Each painting developed intuitively, responding not only to the architecture and atmosphere of the interiors, but also to the freedom the commission offered.
The resulting works move between abstraction and figuration. They suggest landscapes, memories, symbols and fragments of narratives without ever settling into a fixed meaning. Colour, gesture and texture became a way of creating atmosphere rather than illustration.
Once framed and installed, the paintings entered into dialogue with the house itself. They no longer existed as isolated artworks but became part of the experience of living in the space.
The enthusiasm of the owner after the installation confirmed something that has always been important to me: art truly comes alive when it enters the lives of others and finds its place within a new environment.
Standing in front of the empty walls of the house in Nai Harn, the paintings were already there, waiting to be discovered. Imagination took over and the intuitive process of making the house come alive became impossible to resist.
