Burning Bright marks an important stage in the development of Dow Kok’s Excavated Figuration. Across four interconnected panels, fragments of bodies, architectural forms and abstract gestures emerge before dissolving back into the painted surface. Each panel functions as a separate excavation, revealing different traces while resisting a fixed narrative. Moving between recognition and uncertainty, the work invites the viewer into an active search, where images appear, disappear and re-emerge. The quadriptych occupies a significant place within the artist’s evolution, foreshadowing the layered visual language that would become central to later works.
