Salted Dog - A Temporary Presence

Spain

In June 2023, during the renovation of Casa del Artista in Oliva, Spain, a mural titled Salted Dog emerged on the roof terrace. Created directly onto the wall, the work was never intended to be permanent. Today the mural no longer exists, but its absence has become part of its meaning: nothing is forever, yet every gesture leaves a trace.

Salted Dog was created in June 2023 on the roof terrace of Casa del Artista in Oliva, Spain. Measuring 1.75 x 1.75 metres and executed in mixed media directly onto the wall, the mural became part of the house itself—an intervention between painting, architecture and memory.

The work emerged intuitively during a period of renovation and transformation. For a brief moment, the terrace became both studio and canvas, and the mural grew organically from the atmosphere of the place. Like much of my work, Salted Dog was not planned in detail; it was discovered while making it.

The mural no longer exists. It disappeared as the house continued its own journey of change and renewal. Yet its disappearance does not diminish its significance. On the contrary, it reveals something essential: art, like life, can be temporary. Walls are repainted, places evolve and physical objects vanish, but the traces they leave behind remain.

Today, Salted Dog survives only in photographs and in memory. Perhaps that is enough. Some works are meant to be collected, others are meant simply to happen.
