A surface in which darkness is not simply an absence of light, but a condition that is gradually destabilized. The painting unfolds through layered gestures and structural interruptions, suggesting a moment in which the familiar weight of night begins to shift, dissolve, or withdraw. Rather than depicting illumination, Kok explores the tension that arises when darkness itself loses its coherence. Across the canvas, fragmented forms and gestural marks emerge from a dense, atmospheric field. These elements appear suspended between formation and collapse, as if held within a space that is no longer stable. Subtle contrasts and ruptures within the surface create a sense of internal movement an environment in transition rather than resolution. The viewer is not presented with a clear passage from dark to light, but with the ambiguity of that threshold, where neither state fully dominates. The title introduces a quiet but profound inversion. If night is understood as a condition of obscurity or containment, its disappearance does not necessarily bring clarity.
